DAY 13- Firefly/Fireflight (Combiner Wars)

January 13th, 2015. Day 13 of 365.

When Combiner Wars was first announced and revealed, the only one that remotely appealed to me was Firefly/Fireflight. There's a lot of Fireflight here that makes me super in love with the toy, but first some basics: His transformation follows a lot of the same steps as the other two Aerialbots: open his legs and close them around his thighs, slide his arms down, angle back the nosecone and fold out some vehicle bits (wings) and you're done. As tired as I am of the shared transformation styles so far in Combiner Wars, it is still technically accurate to the source material. Also, for weapons Firefly/ight comes with a flamethrower-styled rifle weapon and yet another handfoot cannon.

Regardless of the similarities he has with the other limbs so far, Fireflight's sculpt and overall design makes him stand out in my opinion. His head sculpt might just be my favorite headsculpt in a non-Masterpiece Transformers line, looking very much Generation One-insired, while taking some design cues from the Fall of Cybertron Fireflight head. Combine his knight-like face with his heroic proportions and his fantastic color layout, and Fireflight/fly begins to strike me as a character who can handle anything he wants however he wants. It's amazing how such a blank-slate character design can give off such an impression thanks to subtle sculpting and overall "flow" of his design.

Also he's a jet.
Day 13 Complete. 352 Remain.
