DAY 22- Bowser (KNEX)

January 22nd, 2015. Day 22 of 365.

Build Week, Day 1 of 6
Hello.

I'd like to personally thank all of you who have kept this site alive for the last three weeks, and to thank you I thought I'd be doing something special to end the last full week in January by bringing you the first of hopefully many Theme Weeks. This time around we're doing Build Week: Six back-to-back days of reviews and coverage about a single topic! This time around we are focusing entirely on building/construction toys, in the appropriately named Build Week.

To help kick things off, today we'll be looking at another entry in KNEX's Blind Bagged Super Mario Brothers line of minifigures: Bowser/King Koopa. I admit, last time I covered a KNEX minifigure I may have been a bit unfair in my judgement of the entire line. In retrospect, Bullet Bill is one of the better entries in the toyline- alongside Boo, Cheep Cheep and Toad. The more I think about it, the less I think Bullet Bill was an example of how horrible the line is, but rather an example of how okay the line can become at the very peak of the line's design and quality control.

Now BOWSER on the other hand? Bowser is moreso an example of how shoddy the line is the majority of the time.

For starters, look at the sculpt and the paintwork. Yes, he does clock in at shorter than two inches, but the paint is incredibly blotchy and super spotty at best. The various spikes alongside Bowser's back have been flaking paint since I took him out of his baggied prison. The construction is even worse. The majority of Bowser's body is composed of hollow, rubbery plastic and the entire design seems like a company that wants to do something better and grander in scale but they're completely hampered by the possibilities their company can actually do.

Apparently that's a running theme with KNEX, given the word from their Titanfall toyline. Of the various building toy lines out there, you can easily do better than picking up anything from the KNEX family of products and tomorrow we'll take a look at one of the best sets that's currently hitting the market.

Day 22 Complete. 343 Days Remain.

Build Week: Day 1 Complete. Five Days Remain.
